Portmarnock Links Course, Ireland

Portmarnock Golf Links is a course for shot makers, recovery artists and those with great imaginations. Even Luke Donald would find himself scrambling around this golf course.

Whether it’s a punched 3-wood into a 160 metres par three (that’s right, they measure in metres) or a blind approach shot through the dunes, you’re bound to face all different types of situations in this links terrain. And that’s what makes this course so fantastic. You’ll be planning your way around this course from the 1st tee right up until your last shot.

We were welcomed into the clubhouse by seven pints of Guinness and a platter of club sandwiches. Some proper, golfer’s food right here (even Gary was full) and a friendly buoyant atmosphere to accompany. Gaelic football was on show, and guests were shouting and cheering at the television. Despite the quality prevailing through the golf course and hotel, there were no signs of any snobbery– just friendly staff and a great hotel.

The hotel is everything you would expect from a four-star hotel and more. Flat screen TV’s and furnished to an excellent standard throughout. The views from the bedrooms are spectacular -overlooking either the golf course or the beach depending on where you are stay in the hotel.

Whilst some facilities are lacking in the hotel (no swimming pool) the natural beauty of the local area makes up for it and the sea is within 200metres of the hotel if you are really brave!

I would thoroughly recommend a golf break at the Portmarnock Golf Hotel and Links, you will not be disappointed by the quality of the golf, accommodation, and the dining facilities & food that are on offer.
